Steve Flynn, the drummer of Atheist was involved in an accident two years ago in July. Another car pulled in front of him at a relatively high speed and the result was a collision. Flynn had to be transported to hospital via an ambulance. He had suffered from injuries to his neck, jaw and wrist. The drummer was later taken to his Atlanta house where his condition improved rapidly with the help of physical therapy.
Atheist had just reformed at that time and the band had released its first studio album after the comeback, ‘Jupiter’. The album was a staggering hot and it reached number 88 on the Top New Artists Album chart. The chart lists the albums released by new artists that have achieved the highest sales.
Steve Flynn has been with Atheist from the days when it was the first band that used to make technical music. He co-founded the band together with Kelly Shaefer, but his decision to quit the band and go to college full-time contributed to the disintegration of the band in the 1990s.
Shaefer has said many times that the music that is made when the duo combines is more amazing than what either can do on their own. In Shaefer’s words, ‘Everything just flows’.
The band will be working with Extreme Management Group, and this will be the first time that they will perform under management.
They will also collaborate with Jason Suecof, who also worked on the mixing for ‘Jupiter’. In their new album, he will take a more active role in the production.
