Kelly Shaefer, co-founder of the technical metal band ‘Atheist’ will be playing a small role in a film next year. The film is the first to be directed by his longtime pal, John McElroy. The shooting of Shaefer’s scenes ended earlier this month in an unknown location deep in Florida.

John McElroy is directing ‘Rocky Mountain Fast Guy’, which will probably premiere during the Sarasota Music Festival. The movie is also going to use a number of local musicians to play roles in the movie.

Currently, Atheist is working on another studio album which will be recorded later this year. It will be Atheist’s fifth album and the band will be working together with Jason Suecof, who will be taking on the role of producer.

The band currently has two members who have only accompanied the group on tours but will be participating in their first records now. Jason Holloway and Chris Martin will be hoping to cement their roles in the bands after the album. Also in the band is Steve Flynn, drummer and co-founder of the band, and Tony Choy, bassist.

The band has released a total of four albums, but the only one released after their reformation is Jupiter, and they will be trying their best to replicate its success. Jupiter was released near the end of 2010 and received critical acclaim. The band also cooperated with Jason Suecof in this project as he was the one who mixed the album.

Atheist’s two previous albums have also been re-released in North America in vinyl as limited edition versions.
